Creating a scene with a moderate number of identical spheres is slow

    Description

      When creating a scene for example of a "salt crystal" with eg 10 x 10 x 10 spheres arranged in a sparse grid pattern, then you get very bad performance. This is even where the spheres are identical re-uses of a component.

      It looks likely that the sphere geometry is being recreated for every instance of the sphere component.
