QAbstractTableModel: high latency when selecting cells inside a QAbstractTableModel view with many visible cells

Scrolling and mouse operations are very slow then, even on fast computers (> 2GHz CPU, 4GB RAM). Selecting a cell with the mouse has a significant lag of approximately 0.5 seconds. When you restore the window to a smaller size so there are less cells visible, the speed increases significantly.
