Unable to save Android Manifest after "Application name" field changes

In the Project's run settings, click on Deploy configurations - Details -> Create Android Manifest.xml
In the form that opens, change the "Application name:" field. Then save the manifest either from File -> Save or Ctrl+S. Notice that the asterisk next to the file name AndroidManifest.xml doesn't go away.
Running the application to an Android device will result in the application name not changing.

I have gotten around this once by pressing the X button which prompted a "Save all" dialog, but I've been unable to reproduce it later. It does save the file, but the change isn't propagated to the device, and the application name doesn't change.
