Qt5 CI: handle autotests hanging during `make check'

When we start running more Qt5 autotests in CI, one of the first problems we are likely to hit is that some autotests will hang. If we don't handle this specially, it will hang at the Pulse layer for a long time (by default we've configured the timeout to 12 or 24 hours I think).
