Qt Creator 2.4.0

-
Windows XP SP3
Qt SDK (probably 1.1.4, recently updated)
Qt 4.7.3
Note:
I have several versions of Qt installed in parallel (including Visual Studio ones), but mostly use the Qt SDK with Qt Creator 2.4.0 and the MinGW toolchain.
Description
When attaching Qt Creator as debugger to a crashing MinGW application, this application is recognized as 'x86-windows-msvc2008-pe-32bit', and the following error message is displayed:
---------------------------
Debugger
---------------------------
The debugger engine 'Cdb engine' required for debugging binaries of the type 'x86-windows-msvc2008-pe-32bit' is not configured correctly.

---------------------------
I have tested this error with a modified version of the AnimatedTiles example (see attached file). The included executable was built with the MinGW toolchain on Qt 4.7.3. It crashes on the first paint event. When attaching Qt Creator to debug, the aforementioned error is displayed.
